The benefits of physical activity are universal for all children, including those with disabilities. The participation of children with disabilities in sports and recreational activities promotes inclusion, minimizes deconditioning, optimizes physical functioning, and enhances overall well-being.
Tennis has many benefits for both mind and body for everyone. Physically, playing tennis helps to improve balance, mobility, agility, strength, and fitness, and to burn calories. Mentally, tennis works on one’s focus, concentration, and reactive and problem-solving behaviors. Emotionally it can promote self-confidence, instill feelings of success, relieve stress, and provide social outlets.
These benefits are so much more important for those with disabilities or those in special life situations or with special circumstances:
•Tennis is for everyone and the game of tennis can be adapted to accommodate any age, environment, condition, or disability.
•Tennis is fun.
•Tennis provides a venue for positive social interaction.
•Tennis participation enhances self-esteem and self-confidence.
•Tennis is good exercise and improves overall fitness.
•Tennis improves flexibility, strength, and weight control.
•Tennis helps develop eye-hand coordination and body control.
•Tennis can be played for a lifetime.
OUR SPECIALLY DEVELOPED COACHING METHOD FOCUSES ON:
• Creating positive experiences
• The development of motor skills and body awareness
• Improving physical fitness and emotional well-being
• Developing self-confidence and enhancing social skills
• Strengthening concentration and perseverance.
The physical benefits of exercise reported for children with ASD include improvements in cardiorespiratory functioning, motor skill performance, and muscular strength, as well as a reduction in body mass index. Along with physical benefits, behavioral and cognitive functioning improvements have been reported. Exercise, as an intervention, has also been shown to reduce maladaptive behaviors and stereotypic behaviors as well as increase on-task behaviors and academic responding (e.g., participating in instructional tasks, asking, and answering questions). Exercise has also been shown to improve academic achievement and social skills.
